AirPods Case Compatibility Guide

We make AirPod cases in six sizes, and they are not interchangeable. This page shows you how to work out which generation of AirPods you own before you order.

How to identify your AirPods

Check the charging case

Turn your existing charging case over. A model number starting with A is printed in small text on the underside. Search that number and it will tell you exactly which generation you have.

Check your iPhone

With the AirPods connected, open Settings and tap the AirPods entry at the top of the screen. The model name is shown there.

Quick visual cues

AirPods Pro have short stems with silicone ear tips. Standard AirPods have longer stems and no tips. AirPods Pro Gen 2 have a small speaker grille and a lanyard loop on the case that Gen 1 lacks.

AirPods Gen 1 and Gen 2 share the same case dimensions, so a case for one fits the other. Every other pairing is distinct.

What we do not make

We do not make a case for AirPods Max. Those are over-ear headphones and need an entirely different product, not a scaled-up charging case shell.

What is in the box

A hard 100% polycarbonate shell with a gloss finish, printed with a 3D full-wrap dye sublimation transfer that carries the design across the front, the side walls and the top lid. A carabiner clip is included with every case.

Charging with the case on

The charging port stays accessible and the case is Qi compatible, so you can charge wirelessly or by cable without taking the AirPods case out of its cover.

Care

Wipe dust and dirt off gently with a clean, dry cloth. The print is cured into the polycarbonate rather than applied on top, so it resists everyday scuffing, but avoid solvents and abrasive cleaners.
